Transforming a Global change function

We implemented best practices to optimise the change framework for a global markets business

The challenge

Our client was concerned about the quality and timeliness of its global change delivery, and a growing disconnect between IT, Strategy, and the Business teams.

PEN was engaged to carry out a comprehensive review of the change environment and lead a subsequent enhancement programme including:

  • Establishing a new Governance model
  • Redefinition of the change organisation
  • Implementation of an end-to-end SDLC-agnostic change management framework
  • Implementation of an enterprise PPM tool
  • Implementation of ongoing MI

Our approach

The first task was to understand the current state and roles and accountability of the ~800 change related individuals.

We used a blended approach of best practice (e.g. COBIT5, OPM3 etc.) combined with practical expertise and experience, in order to identify the best fit for the client’s specific challenges and environment.

A detailed assessment of the existing change issues informed a number of key principles for the new change framework.

A transformation programme was defined to implement the new framework globally, via existing, in-flight programmes in parallel with several “Quick Win” activities.

The outcome

PEN helped the client transform their global change environment, with a new framework and governance model which remain in place today.

For the first time, the client had visibility of change investment ROI and clear and informative MI to inform future priorities.

A new Change operating model and structure were put in place to resolve business and IT engagement issues.

The client was so impressed by the outcome that the CEO exclusively invited PEN to undertake similar work for another part of the business.
